TruConnect, the TRUMPF technology for networked manufacturing, is paving the way to Industry 4.0.
Declining lot sizes and rising numbers of variations in items are constantly adding complexity to the manufacturing processes in the sheet metal processing industry. Here, in particular, the effort devoted to indirect processes is climbing. Keeping an overview of the activities and keeping costs under control have indeed become a challenge. TruConnect by TRUMPF helps to achieve individual optimization of business processes as a whole and to reduce the number of interface points. This is why TRUMPF is offering with TruConnect the answer to many needs in manufacturing operations. With individualized solutions, the company not only satisfies his customers’ needs but also guides them along the road, step by step, to achieving a fully networked Smart Factory and ultimately towards attaining Industry 4.0.
Increasing Idividualizataion: The trend towards smaller lot sizes
Optimized for each individual customer
What initially sounds like a vision of the future is actually brought within reach by TruConnect. Consulting that takes account of practical needs shows what the road to the Smart Factory might look like, which advantages it will bring about, and which concrete steps the customer has to take to this end.
The first deliberations take place right on the customer’s shop floor. TRUMPF’s experts analyze the processes used here and identify the potentials for improvements, all along the value chain. Based on the existing situation, they then consult with the customer to determine which approaches to a solution would make sense for the company. The customer’s criteria are decisive here. He determines the direction to be followed to achieve improvement: greater transparency, improved profitability, faster throughput, speedy response to changes, or a mix of several of those criteria. The recommendation for implementation shows the customer how he can achieve the desired goal.
Path to networked production via process optimization
Technology for networked production
The machinery and products made by TRUMPF offer the ideal basis for TruConnect solutions. It is, however, also possible to include other machines and workplaces. Where needed, functions created by partners can augment the concept. Making use of numerous functions and software solutions, the value addition process can be expanded and, depending on the requirements, an individualized Smart Factory can be created. Included in the implementation recommendation might be software packages for production control, warehouse logistics or automatic generation of bids, for instance. But TruConnect also offers monitoring tools, solutions for marking and tracing parts, and far more. TRUMPF already has a wide spectrum of tools that help to intelligently network and optimize processes.
The web-based Performance Cockpit shows all the important productivity figures at a glance. This achieves transparency about the production sequence so that optimization potentials can be identified. To insure that only the truly critical things are shown, the Performance Cockpit can be configured to suit individual needs. The new Condition Guide function at the control of the TruLaser Series 5000 informs users about the machine’s status. A traffic light system provides information about the status of important elements that are of significance to the machine’s cutting capacities. If necessary, the Condition Guide will make recommendations for corrective actions. Charts of events help to forecast when the need for action might arise. In this way, maintenance work can be planned efficiently.
Many further approaches to solutions contained in TruConnect result from including offers provided by AXOOM. The name is that of an IT services provider for companies in manufacturing, founded by TRUMPF. As an open business platform, AXOOM supports the entire value chain. The functions offered by the platform help to simplify steps in the manufacturing process, to synchronize them, and to boost overall productivity to an entirely new level.
